For many children, who care about their elderly
parents’ happiness, it is very important to maintain
them at their house, while assuring their security. With
age, the elderly run many risks, because they loose their
memory, they are not stable on their legs anymore.
For example, they can fall down in their apartment,
maybe quite badly, and not be able to get up again, far
from the telephone to ask for help. If they have no neighbour
to call through the walls, God only knows when they will
manage to get help.
Thanks to X10, one solution exists to this
problem : just by pressing the X10 little key
fob, one can send a pre-recorded message asking for
help to 4 persons, via the X10 security console. For more peace of mind, this
key fob can be carried around on a necklace, so that the
person will wear it during the whole day, because the risk
of falling are numerous in a house : in the bathroom, in
the stairs…
But dangers can also come from forgetfullness
: for example, on leaving her house, your elderly mother
may easily forget to switch off the electric iron or the
electric cooker. It is possible to switch off these appliances
thanks to the Security Console, the computer interface, and several lamps / appliances modules.
Plug all the appliances you wish to switch off automatically
in a lamp / appliance module, and insert the whole into
any standard socket. Thanks to the Active home software,
create a macro, which will switch off all the appliances
modules together, and give the macro the house and unit
code "B2 off". Transfer your setting into the Computer
Interface, disconnect it from your PC and replug it into
any convenient socket of your elderly parent’s house.
When it is armed away, the security console (set to A1)
will send the message "B2 off" through all the mains to
the Computer Interface which will then transmit the macro,
making the lights, the electric cooker, iron and heaters
switch off. It is even possible to add the automatic clothing
of the main entrance door, thanks to an electric closer & lock
linked to a UM 7206 Universal Module.
When coming back to home, on disarming the
security console from the outside thanks to the key fob,
the inhabitant can launch a macro, which will switch on
the light of the corridor and all the heaters in the house.
Of course, X10 can bring a lot of comfort by
automating tiring tasks such as closing of the roller shutters.
When going to bed, your elderly parent will press his bedside
security remote, and while arming his security console,
all the shutters will get down, all the lights will be
switched off. The opposite will happen in the morning when
the elderly person will get up and disarm her security
console.
Through this example, one has the proof that
X10 can bring much comfort to people whose mobility is
reduced as well as a lot of peace of mind to their parents. |
