As a farmer’s wife, I always dreamed of renewing
the old barn on our farm. But in order to make this cost
effective, I wanted to rent the new rooms as a « Bed
and Breakfast » for tourists, which I would
also use for my friends or family members on special occasions.
Of course, I had to think about the electricity and water
system first, in relation to disposal in several rooms,
and the bathroom.
But that was not all ! I had also to plan the external
lighting of the pathway. Indeed, it is really dark at night
around our house, because our farm is located outside the
village. And so, finding one’s way can be really
difficult for a person who is not familiar with the place.
Because tourists might come back late in the evening, I
would not be available to welcome them at their arrival.
Thanks to X10, I found a very simple and efficient system.
It consisted of 3 elements : an external motion sensor, a Din rail switch module, and a transceiver. This little kit could replace me just
as I wished : when entering our garden, the visitor
is immediately lighted by our external lamps. This system
works very easily : the visitor is detected by the
motion sensor, which sends a RF message to a transceiver
module. This one is plugged into a 230 volts standard socket
inside my home. It converts the radio signal into a message
over the power line, and transfers it to the Din rail switch,
plugged into the panel fuse box, to control the external
lights. I decide how long the lights should remain on, because
the sensor also sends a RF signal to turn off the light
at a time I pre-determined.
With such a solution, I can ensure the comfort of my guests,
while saving energy ! |
